Hi, I’m Liz — and This Is The Crafty Lizard

My name is Liz, and I’m the maker behind The Crafty Lizard — a small, bookish business built around a love of reading, cozy routines, and the beautifully imperfect way books show up in real life.
Before I ever sold a bookmark, I was a first grade teacher. Teaching kids how to read and watching them fall in love with books was one of the most meaningful parts of my life. When I became a stay-at-home mom after adopting my son, I didn’t realize how much I would miss that connection to stories and literacy.
Then COVID happened. Like a lot of people, I was home, restless, and looking for something that felt creative and grounding. That’s when I discovered modern calligraphy — and accidentally unlocked a creative side of myself I didn’t even know existed.
At first, it was just for fun. Then it turned into bookmarks. Then mugs. Then other bookish things. And before I knew it, The Crafty Lizard became a real business.
What The Crafty Lizard Is Really About
At its heart, The Crafty Lizard has always been about loving books a lot — not perfectly.
It’s for people who dog-ear pages (or swear they never would but secretly do).
For readers who annotate aggressively or keep their books pristine but still read them curled up on the couch in sweatpants.
For people who believe bookmarks should be both functional and a little bit funny.
I don’t believe reading has to look aesthetic to be meaningful. Some of my favorite reading moments happen in messy spaces, with half-finished coffee and a TBR pile that’s getting wildly out of control.
That’s the energy behind everything I make.
