Most Eligible: A Reality TV Romance That Earned All 5 Cups

Sometimes you pick a book because it’s the one — and sometimes you pick a book because nothing else is calling to you and you think, why not?

That was very much the case with Most Eligible by Isabelle Engel, my Book of the Month Club pick.

It wasn’t something I would normally gravitate toward. None of the BOTM options were screaming my name, but for some reason I kept circling back to this one. Against my usual reading instincts, I gave it a chance — and wow, am I glad I did.

Short Summary

Most Eligible follows a reality dating show that’s very clearly inspired by The Bachelor. Cameras are rolling, producers are pulling strings, contestants are playing the game, and romance may—or may not—be real. What unfolds is a sharp, funny, and surprisingly thoughtful look at what happens when real emotions collide with manufactured drama.

My Thoughts

This book was hysterical. Like, actual laugh-out-loud funny.

The characters were incredibly well written and genuinely likable — except, of course, for the “villains”. The banter was excellent, the pacing was smooth, and the whole thing felt refreshingly lighthearted.

After reading a lot of dark romance lately, this was such a palate cleanser. It was different, playful, and fun without being shallow.

What really hooked me, though, was the behind-the-scenes feel. As someone who used to watch a lot of reality TV (The Bachelor included), this book made me think about how much of what we see is staged, edited, or nudged along by producers to make us believe a certain narrative. It was fascinating in a way I didn’t expect.

When a book:

  • Keeps me interested

  • Makes me think

  • Has characters I genuinely enjoy

  • And makes me laugh out loud

That’s an easy 5-cup read for me. ☕☕☕☕☕

Final Rating

☕☕☕☕☕ — 5 Cups, no hesitation
